Andrews of course led the way in 1867 founding the first golf club for women, "The Ladies' Golf Club".The
Irish Ladies' Golf Union was founded in 1893 and is the oldest Ladies' Golf Union in the world.
Later that year the Ladies’ Golf Union of Great Britain and Ireland was founded and Lady Margaret Scott won the
Ladies' Amateur Golf Championship at Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club. She also who won the first three
British Ladies Championships in 1893, 1894, and 1895.
In America, the LPGA has
been around since 1950 and is one of the most established professional women’s golfing organizations. The founding
members are in many halls of fame, as are some of the most respected and trail blazing women in professional womens
golf. Through the years this organization has grown and today, with the number of young professional women
starting the tour and because of the talent in today’s women golf professionals, such as Karrie Webb and Annika
Sörenstam, golf has finally become a recognisable sport for the women.

There was a time when womens golf competions were not given much attention, as in many other sports.
Television coverage of womens golf has increased now there are more channels available to display to a more select
