Credit where credit is due: article copyright.
Coming from a physical books background, it seems wrong for
me to claim credit for something I didn't write. So I just
wanted to write a short explanation about my articles copyright
and private rights. On the internet you are able to get a huge
range of articles which don't appear to have an author. Perhaps
they were written by a copywriter, perhaps they came from
written information which is now in the public domain (that is
a book or article which has passed beyond the normal rights of
copyright and into the public domain enabling anyone who
formats the document in a different way to publish it and
thereby own this formatted copy under legal copyright)The
articles copyright is sold to you under a licence to use
according to the rights of the licence. There are many
versions of this but the two most used are the private rights
licence and the master rights licence.
Private Rights License or Master Rights Licence
A private licence enables you to edit or use the article for
copy as you choose, to display it, email it, submit it as an
article to other sites etc. a master rights licence enables you
to sell it on to other people to use. This is a somewhat
simplified description but you get the idea. The darker side of
the internet is that because it is so huge, documents, articles
and books may still be under copyright and be illegally
sold as private rights, although I don't think this happens
often. The buyer of such may use the articles in all ignorance,
thinking themselves well within their rights to use their
content because they bought a private rights licence or
master rights licence.
Site's articles copyright
Many of the articles on this site came from a private rights
collection. I was so impressed with their quality that I am
certain that someone who genuinely loved golf and knew a lot
about it, wrote them. Some were absolutely perfect the way they
were, I have done little more than correct a spelling mistake
or typo. Some I have edited a little to make them more
suitable for their placement and some I have edited so much
I created a new article with only a sentence or
two from the original. If I worked on the article a lot, I have
claimed credit for it, otherwise I have left authorship
blank. Some of the articles are all my own work, as are
all the reviews, formatting, design and
headings .
If there is someone who believes that any article on my site
contravenes his/her own copyright, please contact me and I will
remove said article or give credit where due, whichever is
preferred. I have a private rights licence for these articles
and use them believing this to not be the case and therefore
claim the articles copyright.
Yours sincerely
JA Francis
I also wish to thank wikipedia for the excellent information
and links to sources of information it provides and all the
people who work on the site for love. Without wikipedia, we
would all be clueless about so many trivial and important
things.I look for inspiration here, I find information here, I
check facts here. Nothing compares.
